What’s in a name? Quite a lot, actually. Here’s a selection of new brands and products that I have helped to create.

SPYLAND

Bringing Portuguese history to life.

CHALLENGE

Portuguese winery, João Portugal Ramos had developed a delicious red blend with the idea of selling the wine to a millennial, US-based audience. However, they didn’t know what to call their new product or how to market it. With red blends becoming trendy, the client knew that they needed an ownable idea that would make them stand out. We were given carte blanche to create the name, packaging, tone of voice and branding for the wine– a dream project!

INSIGHT

Storytelling has always been big in the wine industry, but it’s recently become key for grabbing the attention of younger consumers. My team and I took a deep dive into Portuguese history and culture, looking for something unique. Something we hadn’t seen before. We wanted to create an interesting brand around something real, a story that only a Portuguese wine could tell.

IDEA

Spyland was hatched. A wine inspired by the true stories of spies who once lived around the Portuguese Riviera. The country’s geographic location and neutrality made it an attractive hiding place for practitioners of espionage. In fact, Ian Fleming was said to have been inspired to write James Bond after he was stationed here in Estoril during WWII. We added iridescent touches to the packaging design, adding some modernity and mystery. Each bottle also came with a secret code hidden in the cork which could be used to unlock extra content on Spyland’s website.
